Safe Harbor & Livestock Sanctuary Second Session of Horse Camp for Grown Ups
Safe Harbor training director Jessica Lyons of Lyons Riding will be the session’s main instructor. Topics will include correct use of a rope halter, safely catching a fearful horse, lunging, ground work and grooming, saddle fit and tacking up, and riding equitation. In addition, there will be an afternoon session on the basics of harnessing and carriage driving with Safe Harbor “After the Track” standardbreds. Enrollment in Horse Camp for Grown Ups is $75 and includes refreshments. Participants are encouraged to bring their own horse if they have one, or they may ‘borrow’ a horse for the session. Riders age 16 and up are welcome to attend; this session is geared toward beginner and intermediate level riders.
Horse Camp for Grown Ups is a series of four Saturday clinics scheduled in 2018. SHELS not only works to rehabilitate and rehome animals in need, but also to educate current and prospective horse owners about the many aspects of ownership and care. Additional sessions are scheduled for July and September. Discounts are available for those who attend multiple sessions.
Advance registration is available on the “events” page of www.safeharborsanctuary.org or by following the link on the Safe Harbor Facebook page. The SHELS training center is located at 3585 Highway 76, Cottontown, TN.
